Symptom

If you have entered an incorrect registration number in Crystal Reports XI Release 1, how do you correct it without having to reinstall?

Cause

Resolution

The registration number can be corrected in the Windows registry.

CAUTION
The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk. It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry. For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

1. Click Start > Run.

2. Enter "regedit" to launch the Registry Editor.

3. Browse to one of the following Registry sub keys (depending on if you are using the Standard, Professional or Developer Edition respectively):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Keycodes\CR Std\Serial

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Keycodes\CR Pro\Serial

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Keycodes\CR Dev\Serial

4. Right-click Serial then click Modify.

5. In the Value data text box, enter your registration number. Click OK.

6. Close the Registry Editor to exit and complete the process.
