1185724 - List of Values prompting error: "Failed to start Java server"

Symptom

When running a report that uses a parameter based on a List of Values (especially a Dynamic Parameter, or one created using the Business View Manager), the report fails to prompt for the parameter and displays the following error message:
 
Crystal Report Prompting failed with the following error message:
'List of Value failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: startJavaServer Fail to start Java Server]',
Error Source: prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D

Cause

The Java installation may be corrupt.

Resolution

Go to Sun's Java website (http://sun.java.com) and navigate to previous releases of the Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE, formerly known as J2SE).  (The relevant page was at http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/previous.jsp when checked on 31 March 2008.)
 
Find the same version that currently exists on the client's computer, download, and re-install.  Then restart the computer and test.
