1196510 - Error: "'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file" when publishing Performance Management samples using runPublishUtil.bat in BusinessObjects XI 3.0

Symptom

In BusinessObjects XI 3.0, when attempting to publish Performance Management samples using runPublishUtil.bat, the following error message appears:

"'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

This may be preceded by a long list of .jar file paths.

As a troubleshooting step, java -version is entered in the command-prompt window to determine the Java Development Kit (JDK) version. However, the version number is not given.
