Symptom
A report is created with linked objects coming from two data providers.
Example:
Data Provider 1:
NameMonth
Forecasted Sales
Data Provider 2
Name
Month
Actual Sales
Data returned by one of the data providers may not have a correspondence on the other.
Example:
Data Provider 1:
Agent | Month | Forecasted Sales |
Wilma | 1 | 10 |
Betty | 1 | 10 |
Fred | 2 | 10 |
Barney | 2 | 10 |
Wilma | 2 | 10 |
Betty | 2 | 10 |
Fred | 3 | 10 |
Barney | 3 | 10 |
Wilma | 3 | 10 |
Betty | 3 | 10 |
Data Provider 2:
Agent | Month | Actual Sales |
Fred | 1 | 8 |
Barney | 1 | 5 |
Wilma | 1 | 11 |
Betty | 1 | 12 |
In the above example, we have no forecasted sales for Fred and Barney on the Month of January (DP1), but in fact they have made some sales as can be seen on DP2.
On the next example, data are merged into a cross-tab which displays forecasted and actual sales per agent and per month.
1 | 2 | 3 | ||||
F | A | F | A | F | A | |
Barney | 5 | 10 | 10 | |||
Betty | 10 | 12 | 10 | 10 | ||
Fred | 8 | 10 | 10 | |||
Wilma | 10 | 11 | 10 | 10 |
If an alerter is created to highlight values compared between the two tables, the behaviour will be different depending on the version.
In the following example, an alerter is created for every agent, so that the cells are colour for each of them
Variable to Compare: DataProvider1.NAME
Operator 1 : =
Value 1 : <NAME OF THE AGENT>
The result on Business Objects 6.1 is as follows:
1 | 2 | 3 | ||||
F | A | F | A | F | A | |
Barney | 5 | 10 | 10 | |||
Betty | 10 | 12 | 10 | 10 | ||
Fred | 8 | 10 | 10 | |||
Wilma | 10 | 11 | 10 | 10 |
While in Business Objects versions 6.5 and above will be:
1 | 2 | 3 | ||||
F | A | F | A | F | A | |
Barney | 5 | 10 | 10 | |||
Betty | 10 | 12 | 10 | 10 | ||
Fred | 8 | 10 | 10 | |||
Wilma | 10 | 11 | 10 | 10 |
