1199085 - Reporting off of multiple databases

Symptom

Customer wants to build a report which connects to more than one data source, but the data comes back incorrectly.

Cause

Having multiple databases in the database expert is not supported.

Resolution

In order to use multiple datasources the user needs to combine them into a single command object. To make a command object do the following:
  1. Open the Crystal Reports report designer click Database, click Database Expert.
  2. Choose a connection to a database you are using (which contains the parent table) and an option will show up called Add Command.
  3. Double-click Add Command and a text box will show up to enter in the SQL which will connect the multiple datasources.

NOTES

  • Refer to the database vendor documentation for the correct SQL to use as it can vary.
  • It is possible to click Database, click Show SQL on the report with multiple data connections and copy/paste it into the command object, however this will give non-optimized SQL.
  1. After entering in the SQL click OK and you are now able to use fields from all of the datasources.
