1200390 - Behaviour of conditional suppress of Page Footer using TotalPageCount

Symptom

The area generated by the page footer within Crystal Reports remains on the last page when the section is conditionally suppressed using PageNumber = TotalPageCount.
This means that the report footer section cannot move into this space. A normal suppress of this section removes the space as well.

Cause

The report footer takes x amount of space, it gets decided that it does not fit the page and pushed to the next page. Only after that the Totalpagecount gets calculated because everything finished printing (including the RF), only after that the PageFooter gets suppressed because of the formula. And because the RF has already printed, it can not "move backwards" in the report to take the empty space of the reportfooter. (Without condition the PF gets suppressed no matter what and there is no problem).

Resolution

This is a behaviour by design. Crystal Reports will always reserve the space for the biggest section when performing any conditional suppress on these PageFooter sections.
