1203623 - 'Unable to find the report in the manifest resources.' when upgrading from Visual Studio .NET 2003 to Visual Studio .NET 2005

Symptom

 

When a .NET project using a strongly typed report is opened windows form solution of Visual Studio .NET, the error 'Unable to find the report in the manifest resources.' is produced. This usually happens with upgrades from Visual Studio .NET 2003 to Visual Studio .NET 2005.

Resolution

In Visual studio .NET, open the "Solution Explorer" and click the "Show all Files" icon to show all the files. 

Expand the Crystal Report file and right-click on the .vb or .cs file.

Select "view code".

This crystal report .vb or .cs file is an auto generated code by the custom tool. Ensure that the class name inside the report file (.vb or .cs) matches your Crystal Report file name. If not,  delete the Crystal report .vb or .cs file, then right-click on the report file and select "Run Custom Tool" to generate a new report .vb or .cs file.

Also ensure that the value of the property "Custom Tool" is set to "CrystalDecisions.VSDesigner.CodeGenerator" and "Build Action" property is set to "Embedded Resource". These cam be checked in the properties of the Crystal Report file.
