Symptom
In BusinessObjects Enterprise XI Release 2, a Desktop Intelligence report has been saved to text format. It is then imported to another application such as Microsoft Excel. The import either fails or has extra characters preceding the text.
When checking the file in a hex editor, three extra hex numbers precede the code for the report text (for example, EF BB BF). These are Byte Order Marks (BOM). This indicates the byte ordering of the file in UTF-8.
