1205129 - Reports to old database after changing the database connection in Crystal Reports.

Symptom

  • Database logon is asked twice
  • A database logon refers to old database

Environment

  • Business Objects Enterprise (BOE) or Crystal Reports Server (CRS)
  • Crystal Reports (CR)

Reproducing the Issue

  • From CR open a report which contains dynamic parameters
  • Change the data source location of the report
  • Save the report into either BOE or CRS
  • From Infoview run the report

Cause

  • A Dynamic Cascading Prompt group of a managed report (report published to BOE or CRS) has its own database connection.
  • After the report is saved into either BOE or CRS, the Dynamic Cascading Prompt group is automatically saved in Business View Manager (BVM).
  • From Crystal Reports, only the database connection of the report itself can be changed.
  • The database connection of the Dynamic Cascading Prompt is changed from BVM.

Resolution

  1. Open BVM
  2. From ’View’ menu, check ‘Repository Explorer’
  3. From the ‘Repository Explorer’ window, open the ‘Dynamic Cascading Prompts’ folder
  4. Double-click on the ‘Data Connection’ object related to a dynamic parameter
  5. Select Edit
  6. Select Edit Connection
  7. Set up the connection to the new database
  8. Repeat steps 4,5,6 and 7 for each dynamic parameter used within the report

Resolution without using BVM:

  1. From CR, open the report
  2. Set the database location to the new database
  3. Edit an existing dynamic parameter
  4. Select the fields to which the parameter refers
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each dynamic parameter

Please note that both resolutions can be applied if the SAP Integration KIT and ERP server are used.
