How do I use Crystal Reports with OLE DB Microsoft Data Link (UDL) Files?
Cause
Microsoft Data Link (or UDL) Files are comparable to File DSNs in ODBC. The UDL files store connection information to be used by the OLE DB layer. They are available with OLE DB 2.0, which is installed by MDAC 2.x. Crystal Reports has been able to use UDL files since Crystal Reports 8.
Resolution
To create a UDL file

Right-click on the Windows desktop.

Click New > Text Document from the menu. A new text file appears on the desktop.

Rename the file's extension from ".txt" to ."udl". This causes it to become a Data Link file.
It is a good idea to rename the file to something relevant to its use, such as "MySQLServer.udl" or similar. -
Right-click the file > click Properties to configure the connection.

Click the appropriate OLE DB provider in the Provider tab before entering information in the Connection tab.
The template for the Connection tab changes based on the OLE DB provider used. Enter any connection information relevant to this provider, such as logon credentials.
