1213352 - Error: "Not Authorized: You do not have permission to perform the requested action..." and other error messages in Crystal Enterprise 8 with an invalid or missing license key

Symptom

In Crystal Enterprise 8, when a license key is missing or expired, one of the following error messages appear:

  • "There was an error saving data to server."
  • "Update error: There was an error while writing data back to the server: Users may not be created or deleted when using a product version lower than Professional. The product must be upgraded."
  • "Not Authorized: You do not have permission to perform the requested action. Please contact your system administrator for details."
  • "You are not authorized."

In an unmanaged environment, a URL to a report will not open in the viewer. The Crystal Enterprise logon dialog box will appear instead. Only the administrator account can log on and view reports. No other accounts are permitted.

In a managed environment, when attempting to start ePortfolio, the Crystal Enterprise logon dialog box appears instead. Only the Administrator account can log on and view reports. However, the Administrator is unable to schedule reports.

In the Crystal Management Console, the administrator is not able to

  • add or remove users or user groups
  • add or remove report objects
  • schedule existing reports
  • add or remove folders
  • change global settings.
