1213543 - No prompt to set characters per inch when exporting report to Text format from Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Missing prompt to select characters per inch
  • When exporting a report to text format, we are not getting the dialog box to enter the characters per inch in Crystal Reports.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2025

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports open any report.
  2. Export the report to text format.
  3. The dialog box to prompt for Characters per Inch does not prompt.

Cause

  • Someone has already checked the box in the past to no longer prompt for it.
  • When you set the option: "Do not prompt me again" checkbox, a registry key is created and set so that the user will not be prompted with this dialog in future text exports.

Resolution

  • Set the registry key: PromptAgain, to the value: 1

WARNING The following resolution involves editing the Microsoft Registry. Using the Microsoft Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems. Use the Microsoft Registry Editor at your own risk. For more information see the SAP Knowledge Base Article 1323322

    1. Close Crystal Reports, if the application is open.

    2. Open the Microsoft Registry Editor.
(In Microsoft Windows, under the menu Start, select Run, and type: regedit)

    3. In the Microsoft Registry Editor, navigate to the following path:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SAP Business Objects\Suite XI 4.0\Crystal Reports\Export\TextExport

    4. Set the registry key: PromptAgain, to the value: 1
      ( Possible values: 1 = To prompt,  0 = To NOT prompt)
