1213980 - Crystal Reports crash when inserting a picture in the format: JPEG or BMP

Symptom

  • Crystal Reports when inserting a picture.
  • When inserting a JPEG or BMP file as a picture, Crystal Reports stops responding.
  • Can insert other pictures on the report successfully.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2008 
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, open a report.
  2. Insert a picture ( JPEG, ot BMP )
  3. Crystal Reports crash. 

Cause

  • Crystal Reports crash because the picture size is an even number of pixels. A picture with an odd number of pixels can be inserted without a problem.

  • This issue has been track under: ADAPT00058974

Resolution

  • To resolve this issue:
       
    • Re-size the image outside of Crystal to have an odd number of pixels (For example: 404 x 625 pixels) and then insert the image as a picture object; OR
        
    • Insert the image as an OLE object instead of as a picture object.
