1215015 - Error: "Load Report Failed" after deploying .NET app to Windows 98 / ME

An application created with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET is deployed to a Windows 98 or ME client computer. When the application is run, the following error message appears:

"Load Report Failed"

The client has the .NET Framework as well as a Crystal Reports distribution package installed.

There are different versions of ATL.DLL for Windows 9x and Windows NT-based computers.

The query engine DLL (CRQE.dll) is not registered correctly on the client computer.

Complete these steps to resolve this error message:

1. Manually register CRQE.dll on the client computer using the following command: regsvr32 "C:\program files\common files\Crystal Decisions\1.0\bin\CRQE.dll"

2. If CRQE.dll does not register or does successfully register but the error message persists, check the version of the ATL.dll on the client computer. The correct version of ATL.dll for Windows 98/ME is 3.0.8449.

The correct version of ATL.dll can be found and registered on the client computer using one of these 3 methods:

i. Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on the client computer.

ii. Manually copy and register ATL.dll on the client computer and then rerun the Setup package for the Crystal Reports distribution.

iii. Include the ATL.msm merge module in your setup project to install and register the correct version of ATL.dll on the computer.

NOTE:

There are different versions of ATL.DLL for Windows 9x and Windows NT-based computers. Copying the file from one computer to another may not work. Using the ALT.msm merge module is the recommended method to install ATL.dll. The ATL.msm merge module is found on the Install Shield web site.

3. If the error message still persists, refer to SAP Note 1216088.

4. The "Load Report Failed" error message may also be caused by incorrect distribution of runtime files.
