Symptom
In Crystal Reports (CR) 9, after creating a custom function, the custom function appears under 'Report Custom Functions' in the Formula Workshop. However, you would like to further categorize the custom functions in subfolders.
How do you create subfolders to organize custom functions?
Resolution
You can categorize custom functions by using the 'Category' text box in the custom function's properties window.
Create Category Folders for Custom Functions
-------------------------------------------
1. On the 'Report' menu, click 'Formula Workshop'.
2. Double-click 'Report Custom Functions'.
3. Right-click the custom function, and then click 'Toggle Property Display'.
====================
NOTES:
· To edit a custom function, verify that the custom function is not currently attached to the repository. To disconnect a custom function from the repository, right-click the custom function and then click 'Disconnect from Repository'.
· Built-in custom functions (functions in the 'Crystal' folder in the repository) cannot be disconnected from the repository, and therefore cannot be categorized.
· When a custom function is attached to the repository, the category subfolder is added to the repository with it.
====================
4. Enter the name of the subfolder in the 'Category' text box.
5. Click 'Close' and you will be prompted to save your changes. Click the 'Yes' button.
The next time you open the Formula Workshop you will see the category as a subfolder under 'Report Custom Functions' and in the 'Functions' window.
If you want to create further folder levels, add a forward slash and then the name of the next folder.
For Example:
To create three levels of folders enter the following in the 'Category' text box:
My Custom Functions/Business Reports/Add Sales Tax
