1216894 - Report using custom paper size spans multiple pages when viewed using CE RAS 9

Symptom

A Crystal report uses a custom paper size (for example, 36" x 24"). When the report is previewed or exported using the Crystal Enterprise Report Application Server (CE RAS) 9, the report appears on multiple pages, instead of on a single custom page.

Why does the report appear on multiple pages, and how can this behavior be resolved?

Resolution

The report appears on multiple pages because the RAS service is running under an account without sufficient permissions to access the appropriate printer driver.

To resolve this behavior:

1. Install on the CE RAS computer the printer driver that is used by the report.

====================

NOTES:

" If you are using a network printer, install the driver using an account with domain administrator privileges on the CE RAS computer.

" If you are using a local printer, install the driver using an account with local administrator privileges.

====================

2. Configure the RAS service to run under a domain account as follows:

i. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Component Services, and click 'Services (Local)'.

ii. Right-click 'Report Application Server' or 'Crystal Report Application Server', and select 'Properties'.

iii. On the 'Log On' tab, select 'This account'.

iv. Type in the name of a local administrator account with domain administrator privileges.

v. Restart the RAS service.

3. Install Crystal Reports on the CE RAS computer.

4. Open the report in the Crystal Reports Designer, and on the File menu, click 'Printer Setup'. The 'Print Setup' dialog box appears.

5. Select the appropriate printer and paper size, and then save the report.

After completing these steps, the report now appears on a single custom page when previewing it using CE RAS 9.

See Also

If the RAS service is already running under an account with sufficient permissions to access the appropriate printer driver, the issue may be because the RAS service is attempting to use the enumerated value of the custom paper size that either does not exist on the CE RAS computer, or corresponds to a different paper size.
