1217461 - Error: "Failed to open a rowset" after saving input parameter in OLEDB query

Symptom

  • An input parameter is added (or edited) to a hierarchical OLEDB query (chaptered rowset).
  • Attempt to save the parameterized hierarchical query.
  • Error: "Failed to open a rowset."

Cause

This known issue has been assigned Track ID ADAPT00287971, and affects the following:
  • Crystal Enterprise (CE) 10
  • Crystal Reports (CR) 10
  • Crystal Enterprise Report Application Server (CE RAS) 9
  • Crystal Reports (CR) 9

To determine if this issue is also addressed in a Monthly Hot Fix or Service Pack for your Crystal product, search the readme file for Track ID ADAPT00287971 in the latest Monthly Hot Fix or Service Pack.

Resolution

Hot Fixes or Service Packs address this issue as indicated below. With the update(s), parameter(s) can now be added to a hierarchical OLEDB query when using Crystal Reports and OLE DB providers (for example, Lawson OLEDB Query Builder).

Known limitations: When saving the query and returning to the Database Expert, initialize all parameter default values so the initial query produces a non-empty rowset. Crystal Reports requires a non-empty parent rowset to build child rowset schema information for the hierarchical query. An empty result set while editing will still result in the error "Failed to open rowset".

Unless indicated otherwise, Weekly Hot Fix updates from the FTP site have only been tested with English versions of our products.

CAUTION

Hot Fixes and Service Packs are not designed for OEM versions. Do not apply these updates if you are using an OEM version. To determine if you are using an OEM version, refer to the OEM PRoduct Warning.
