1217739 - Can you use the ActiveX viewer in an ASP.NET web application?

Symptom

Can you use the ActiveX viewer in an ASP.NET web application?

Resolution

No, the ActiveX viewer cannot be used in an ASP.NET web application.

Background information

----------------------

The ActiveX viewer is only available for ASP applications because of a supporting file called Rptserver.asp. The Rrptserver.asp file acts as a "bridge" to communicate between the client-side ActiveX viewer with the server side engine. However, this "bridge" is not available for ASP.NET web applications.

Currently, there are no plans to support the ActiveX viewer in ASP.NET web applications. Use the Web Forms Viewer (DHTML zero-client) to view reports in an ASP.NET web application.

If the ActiveX viewer must be used from an ASP.NET web application, the ASP.NET application can redirect (link) to an ASP application that would handle the report viewing.

Note that using the Enterprise SDK is not supported in Windows or thick client applications
