1218256 - Error: "abnormal program termination" when connecting to CDO recordset

Symptom

A Crystal Data Object (CDO) contains a field name that ends with a number enclosed in brackets. For example: "(9)". When a Report Designer Component (RDC) 9 Visual Basic (VB) application attempts to connect to a CDO recordset at runtime, the following error message appears:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program C:\...\vb6.exe

abnormal program termination"

Cause

This error message appears because the QueryEngine incorrectly interprets field names that end with a number enclosed in brackets.
