1218517 - Error: "Crexcel_en.xla could not be found" when starting Microsoft Excel

On a computer that contains Crystal Reports 10 and Microsoft Excel, when you open Excel the following error message appears:

"Crexcel_en.xla could not be found".

If you click OK, Excel opens successfully.

This error message appears because Crexcel_en.xla is not on the computer or cannot be found.

To resolve this error message, perform the following steps:

For Crystal Reports 10:

1. Search the Crystal Reports 10 CD for Crexcel_en.xla.
2. Copy this file to <installation directory>:\Program Files\Common Files\Crystal Decisions\2.5\bin.
3. Restart the computer.

Upon completing these steps, you can open Excel without the error message appearing.

For Crystal Reports XI or XI Release 2:

1. Open Excel.
2. Click Tools > Add-Ins.
3. Clear the Crystal Reports Wizard (crexcel_en) check box.
4. Click OK to remove the crexcel_en add in from the list.

The error no longer appears.

Crexcel_en.xla is the Excel Add-In file for Crystal Reports. The Excel Add-in allows you to create a Crystal Reports file from an existing Excel worksheet.
