Symptom
- No data returned after re-importing a subreport.
- In Crystal Reports, an existing report is inserted as a subreport. Links to the subreport are created and then the subreport is re-imported. When you now preview the report, the subreport returns no data.
- There are no error messages and the subreport links appear fine.
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports 2020
- SAP Crystal Reports 2025
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, open a report, or create a new report.
- Insert an existing report (as a subreport) into the main report.
- Right-click the subreport. Click Change Subreport Links. The Subreport Links dialog box appears.
- Link the main report to the subreport using any field.
- Click a parameter from the subreport in the bottom left corner of the Subreport Links dialog box. Click OK.
- Right-click the subreport in the main report
- Click Re-import subreport.
- When viewing the record selection formula in the subreport, it has been modified to include an additional filter.
Cause
- This behavior occurs because re-importing a subreport may cause the record selection in the subreport to change.
- For example, an additional filter such as "{field} = {?PM-parameter}" is added to the record selection formula.
Resolution
For the subreport to return data, when there is data to return:
- In Crystal Reports, open the report.
- Right-click the subreport in the main report. Click Edit Subreport.
- Go to the Report menu and click Selection Formulas > Records.
- Remove any extra filters that were added when the subreport was re-imported to the main report.
- Save the report.
