Symptom
In Crystal Reports, an existing report is inserted as a subreport. Links to the subreport are created and then the subreport is re-imported.
When you now preview the report, the subreport returns no data.
There are no error messages and the subreport links appear fine.
Why does this behavior occur and how do you resolve it?
Reproducing the Issue
- Insert an existing report (as a subreport) into the main report.
- Right-click the subreport. Click Change Subreport Links. The Subreport Links dialog box appears.
- Link the main report to the subreport using any field.
- Click a parameter from the subreport in the bottom left corner of the Subreport Links dialog box. Click OK.
- Right-click the subreport in the main report
- Click Re-import subreport.
When viewing the record selection formula in the subreport, it has been modified to include an additional filter.
====================
NOTE:
Do not clear the Select data in subreport based on field check box.
====================
Resolution
This behavior occurs because re-importing a subreport may cause the record selection in the subreport to change. For example, an additional filter such as "{field} = {?PM-parameter}" is added to the record selection formula.
This is a known issue and has been tracked under Track ID ADAPT00073557.
To resolve this behavior, use the following steps:
- Right-click the subreport in the main report. Click Edit Subreport.
- Go to the Report menu and click Selection Formulas > Records.
- Remove any extra filters that were added when the subreport was re-imported to the main report.
=======For BusinessObjects XI Release 2==============
In BusinessObjects XI Release 2, this issue has been fixed with a Critical Hot Fix.
Hot Fixes or Service Packs address this issue as indicated below. With the update(s), the linked subreport parameters are not added to the selection formula anymore.
Known limitations: It can happen that an independant selection formula condition gets duplicated, but the resulting SQL will still be the same.
Unless indicated otherwise, Critical Hot Fix updates from the FTP site have only been tested with English versions of our products.
