1219150 - Error: "List of Values failure: fail to get values"CORBA_SystemException"

Symptom

Crystal Reports is running behind a firewall. When running a Crystal report that contains a dynamic parameter, or when selecting a predefined dynamic list of values (LOV) in Crystal Reports using the 'Create New Parameter' dialog box, the following error message appears:

"List of Values failure: fail to get values. [Cause of error: CORBA_SystemException ]' Error source: prompt.dll Error code: 0x8004380D".

Resolution

This error message occurs because of the location of the Report Application Server (RAS) relative to the firewall configuration.

The list of values uses the RAS server which does not use the designated 'Request Port' for outgoing traffic. Instead, the RAS server uses its own port which may conflict with the firewall, thus causing this CORBA error message.

To verify that this is the cause, do one of the following:

  • Run the report with the firewall turned off.

- OR -

  • Run the report in the Crystal Reports Designer on the Business Objects Enterprise XI Release 2 server.

To resolve this error message, run the RAS server outside the firewall. There is also the option of opening all outgoing ports on the firewall. While this option still prevents unauthorized incoming traffic, it allows for communication on any port leaving through the firewall.

NOTE: If you are using Windows XP, check whether the Windows XP firewall is locked ON. If so, the Windows firewall exception rule must be defined when upgrading to Crystal Reports XI.
