Symptom

Problem when printing OLE object
OLE object is printed as a black box when using Post Script Printer

Reproducing the Issue

From Crystal Reports> 'Insert' menu>’OLE Objects';
Create from File and locate a file created with Excel 2007;
Insert the OLE Object in any section;
Print the report using a printer which supports Post Scripts;
OLE Object is printed like a black box.

Environment information:

Crystal Reports XI R2 or
Crystal Reports 2008
Microsoft Office 2007

Cause

The issue could depend on either Microsoft Office, Ole server or PS printer drivers.

Please note: Crystal Reports treats all types of Ole Objects in the same way; there is no special code/filter so that CR would recognise the file format of the Ole Object.

In fact, the Ole Objects are handled by the Ole server which is not provided by Crystal Reports.

Resolution

Workaround:

Convert the Excel file from version 2007 to version 2003
