1233966 - Export difficulties when exporting a Crystal report to Excel; a conditionally formatted crosstab summary field is ignored

Symptom

  • In Crystal , the report displays the applied formatting

  • When exported to excel, the original formatting is shown

  • The conditional formatting on display string is not preserved in Excel

Reproducing the Issue

  • From Crystal Reports, create a Cross Tab
  • Right click on the total row field of the cross tab
  • Select Format Field
  • From Common Tab, click Conditional formatting button on Display String
  • Create a formula
  • View the report

Environment information:

Crystal Reports XI Release 2

Microsoft Excel

Cause

This is by design.
  • Excel data only format is a record-based format that concentrates on data and does not export all the formatting
  • The conditional formatting on display string is not a format supported by Excel-data only
  • The conditional formatting on display string is not also supported if applied on normal field

Resolution

Workaround:

  • Export the report using the Excel format
  • The Excel format supports the conditional formatting on display string
