Symptom

  • How to filter through a List of Values (LOV)?

  • How to create a search parameter that can be used in Crystal Reports to select values from LOVs?

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2008
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016

Cause

  • Search through big LOV will be faster.
  • reports will be more effiecient.

Resolution

  • Open Business View Manager
  • Create a data connection and save it.
  • Create a Data Foundation on this Data connection.
  • Create a parameter of type static and add items A-Z in the item list of this parameter.
  • Create a new filter as ‘{fieldvalue} starts with {?Search parameter}’   
  • Apply this filter to users by ‘Edit Rights’ option and Save this data Foundation.
  • Create a Business Element on this Data foundation.
  • Create a Business View on this Business Element.
  • Create LOV within the filtered field.
  • Create a report in Crystal Reports Designer which directly connects to the database (Not through a Business View).
  • Create a parameter of type dynamic and existing in this report which uses the LOV created.
  • Build the report and refresh it.
