Symptom
- Error when trying to connect to the server from Crystal Reports.
- Login failed when attempting to connect to SAP BusinessObjects BI Server from Crystal Reports using the server name.
- Can successfully logon to the server from Crystal Reports when using IP address of server.
Environment

- SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.2
- SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.3
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, under the menu "File", select "Open"
- In the "Open" window, in the left pane, select "Enterprise"
- Enter the Server Name, user name, and password.
- It then displays an error.
Cause
- All servers are not enabled/ stopped in Central Configuration Manager (CCM); or
- Server name is not added in the host file of the local computer.
Resolution
- Add the Host Name, and IP Address of the SAP BusinessObjects BI Server in the Host file of the local computer:
- In MS Windows, go to the following folder:
C:\Windows\System32\driver\etc\
- In Notepad, open the file: host
- Add the IP address followed by the server host name at the end of the file, like:
12.34.56.78 MyHostServerName
- Save the file.
