Symptom

Getting a Red X instead of images in crystal reports

Reproducing the Issue

  • Crystal Reports Server XI Release 2
  • Central Management Server (CMS) Version: 11.5.10.1275
  • Operating System: Windows Server 2003
  • CMS Database: MS SQL Server 2000
  • Web Application Server: Internet Information Services (IIS)

Cause

The extension .aspx is not mapped for the "crystalreportviewers115" virtual directory

Resolution

  1. Open IIS by going to Start -> Run -> Type 'inetmgr'
  2. Navigate to the "Default Web Site" under 'Web Sites' section
  3. Right click on the 'crystalreportviewers115' virtual directory and go to properties
  4. Under the 'Virtual Directory' tab click on the 'Configuration' button under Application Settings
  5. Under the 'Mappings' tab add the .aspx extension and provide the aspnet_isapi.dll executable
  6. Uncheck the option 'Verify that file exists' and click on OK
  7. Reset IIS
