Symptom
When trying to add two time recordings with different time types on the same day or during the same period in the employee's time file, the system generates the following error message:
Times with Time Types <XYZ> and <ABC> collide for period <dd.mm.yyyy> to <dd.mm.yyyy>.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the Time Administration work center.
- Access the Employees view.
- Choose the relevant employee and click the Edit button.
- Navigate to the Employee Time tab.
- Try to record two different Time Types for the same timeframe, such as illness and vacation for the same day.
- Click the Save button to confirm the entries.
Error message 'Times with Time Types <XYZ> and <ABC> collide for period <dd.mm.yyyy> to <dd.mm.yyyy>' appears.
Cause
Generally, the system does not allow you to save time recordings with different time types for the same time period; for example, recording illness and vacation for the same day. However, the company policy might consider the possibility of illness during a vacation period.
The collision rule for time types is introduced in the work center 'Business Configuration' to permit or disallow this kind of system behavior.
Resolution
In order to configure the behavior of the system with regard to the collision of 'Time Types' in the 'Time Sheet', follow the below steps:
- Navigate to the Business Configuration work center.
- Access the Activity List view.
- Click on the arrow Fine-Tune.
- Search for the activity Time Types and open it.
- Open the link 'Maintain Collision Rules'.
- Click the button Maintain Collision Rules.
- Here, you can maintain/configure the collision rule.
- Click the Save and Close button to save your changes.
