1341199 - Designer terminates unexpectedly when saving a Universe imported from XI 3.0 or older versions of BusinessObjects Enterprise

Symptom

  • Saving a Universe imported into BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 that was updated or created in the Designer XI 3.0 causes it to terminate unexpectedly
  • The Universe can be migrated via the Import Wizard or the Designer XI 3.1 client and the same behavior occurs
  • Save As will save successfully, but clicking "Save" or File > Save crashes Designer
  • Designer crashes with no error, the application closes on its own and no errors appear in Event Viewer or Designer logs
  • Or an error message is received:
    • "Business Objects has encountered a problem and needs to close".
    • Click on the link to get more information about the error and the following is displayed:
      • AppName: designer.exe AppVer: 12.1.2.996 ModName: cube.dll ModVer: 12.1.2.996 Offset: 001659d
  • The Universe continues to open and save without problem in Designer XI 3.0
  • This is not an issue for all Universes migrated from XI 3.0, and occurs only with more complex designs
