1343317 - Abnormal license consumption when refreshing XCelsius documents

Symptom

  • Viewing and refreshing XCelsius documents in Infoview increases the license consumption by a factor of 2 when compared with that used by the Live Office connector

Reproducing the Issue

  1. CREATE A WEB INTELLIGENCE DOCUMENT
    1.1 Log on to Infoview
    1.2 From the menu select Document List > Create > New Web Intelligence Document
    1.3 Select the EFashion universe
    1.4 In the query panel insert the objects Year and Sales Revenue
    1.5 Save the document with name WEBI01 in the folder Report Samples with option for refresh on open
  2. INSERT THE WEB INTELLIGENCE DOCUMENT INTO AN EXCEL SPREADSHEET USING A LIVE OFFICE CONNECTION
    2.1 Open Microsoft Excel - a new blank document is automatically available for editing
    2.2 From Live Office menu click on the Insert Web Intelligence Content icon
       (or from the menu select Live Office > Insert > Web Intelligence Content)
    2.3 Navigate to the Report Samples folder and select the WEBI01 report, created at point 5, then click on Next
    2.4 Choose the data to be displayed by clicking on the fields on the preview screen, then click on Next
    2.5 Confirm the Live Office Object Name by clicking on Finish
    2.6 Right click on the Live Office content within the Excel spreadsheet, select from the pop-up menu: Live Office > Refresh Options
    2.7 Select the On Demand option and click on OK
    2.8 Save the Excel document with name XLS01
  3. CREATE AN XCELSIUS DOCUMENT BASED ON THE EXCEL DOCUMENT
     3.1 Open XCelsius, a blank document ready for editing will be displayed
     3.2 From the Components tab, select Pie Chart and drag-drop it to the design panel
     3.3 Right click on the Pie Chart object and select Properties
     3.4 Click on the Data Interval button, you will be prompted for importing a model
     3.5 Select the XLS01.XLS Excel document, previously created and confirm the Range Selection or adjust accordingly
     3.6 From the components tab, select Web connectivity > Live Office Connector and drag-drop it to the design panel
     3.7 Right click on the Live Office connector object and from the pop-up menu select Properties
     3.8 Click on the Behavior tab and check the Refresh on Load option, then close the Live Office Connector properties window
     3.9 From the menu select File > Export > Business Objects Enterprise then logon to the BOBJ Enterprise
    3.10 Navigate to the Report Samples folder and in the File Name textbox type XLS01 then click on Save
  4. CHECK THE LICENSE COUNT
    4.1 Logon to the CMC - Central Management Console
    4.2 Click on the Settings hyperlink
    4.3 Click on the Metrics tab
    4.4 Take note of the Total Open Connections
    4.5 Close the Central Management Console
  5. OPEN THE XCELSIUS DOCUMENT IN INFOVIEW
    5.1 Logon to Infoview
    5.2 Navigate to the Report Samples folder
    5.3 Double click on the XLS01 Xcelsius document
  6. CHECK AGAIN THE LICENSE COUNT
    6.a  go back to the CMC and click on REFRESH or:
    6.b. repeat steps 4.1 to 4.4

Note: in order to correctly monitor the license consumption, the above test must be done in a development system where you are sure nobody has access

Cause

this has been reported as a bug with reference Number ADAPT01223477

Resolution

  • the fix is scheduled for Service Pack 2 for XCelsius 2008
