1351305 - No data returned when reporting of a Bex Query in Crystal Reports and using wildcard characters in the parameter

Symptom

  • No data returned in Crystal Reports
  • Reporting of SAP BEx Query that filter data on at least one parameter in Crystal Reports.
  • Returns no data in Crystal Reports when entering a wildcard character for the parameter (variable)
  • Returns data in BEx Analyzer When entering a wildcard character for the variable (parameter)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In SAP Query Designer, create a new BEx Query
  2. Add rows, and filter on a variable that accept text
  3. Save the new BEx Query
  4. Create a new report in Crystal Reports of the BEx Query
( The variable will be added as a parameter in Crystal Reports )
  5. Refresh the report, and in the parameter, enter a wildcard character like the asterisk (*) to return all the data starting with specific character(s).

Example: If you have the following values in the data source:

Argentina
Bahamas
Belgium
Bermuda
USA

In BEx Analyzer, if you enter the following in the variable:

Be*

Then it will return the following in BEx Analyzer:

Belgium
Bermuda

When reporting of the same BEx Query in Crystal Reports and entering in the parameter:

Be*

It returns no data in Crystal Reports

  • Crystal Reports with the SAP Integration Kit
    • Crystal Reports XI
    • Crystal Reports XI R2
    • Crystal Reports 2008

Cause

Crystal Reports with SAP Integration Kit pass the information entered in the parameter as a single value and it therefore can't find anything that match in the data source.

Resolution

Limitation of Crystal Reports with SAP Integration Kit
