Symptom
- Unable to view a report in Crystal Reports Viewer containing a subreport.
- When opening a report in Crystal Reports Viewer, it display the error:
"There was a problem updating the server. The report may not be configured properly for refresh. Please contact your server administrator."
Environment
- SAP Crystal Reports Viewer 2016
- SAP Crystal Reports Viewer 2020
Reproducing the Issue
- Open a specific report in Crystal Reports Viewer stored on the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform.
- It generates the error:
"There was a problem updating the server. The report may not be properly configured for updating. Contact the server administrator."
Cause
- Crystal Reports Viewer is an offline viewer, and can only view report with saved data.
Resolution
- In Crystal Reports, open the report, and refresh it.
- Under the menu: File, select "Save As -> To Enterprise" and replace the report with Saved Data option.
- Open the report in Crystal Reports Viewer.
If the report still displayed the same error then:
- Open the report in Crystal Reports and refresh the report, check if it processes until the last page of the report.
- If the report does not process until the last page then Verify, if the report contains any subreports and ensure it is located correctly in the section. If not, it would prompt as: Page size is not enough and large memory cannot be displayed
- Replace the location of subreport in the main report.
- Run the report until the last page displays and save the report to SAP BusinessObjects BI platform,
- Open the report in Crystal Reports Viewer.
