1389841 - XI R2 Audit data intermittently stops writing to audit database behind a firewall

Symptom

In an XI R2 system where the XI application has to navigate a firewall to the CMS and Audit databases, audit data is successfully written to the audit database, but intermittently stops. The data is still getting written to the flat files. Stop/Starting the Central Management Server (CMS) temporarily resolves this issue, but it continues to occur.

Reviewing CMS logging reveals an entry from the database client that the connection to the audit database has failed due to a communication failure. An example of what a DB client would report:

(DB2AuditDBSS_impl.cpp:41). (0 : [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL30081N  A communication error has been detected.  Communication protocol being used: "TCP/IP".  Communication API being used: "SOCKETS".  Location where the error was detected: "<ip address>".  Communication function detecting the error: "send".  Protocol specific error code(s): "32", "*", "0".  SQLSTATE=08001).
