1411649 - Parameter Date format incorrect in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Incorrect date format.
  • How to change the parameter date format from: dd/mm/yyyy, to something else?
  • When refreshing a report in Crystal Reports, or in SAP BI LaunchPad, the date prompt display in a different format, than the one expected. How to change the date parameter format? 
        
    For example: The date format display as: dd/mm/yyyy, but we will like to see it has mm/dd/yyyy instead.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
  2. Add a date parameter to the report.
  3. When refreshing the report, the date prompt in the format:  dd/mm/yyyy 
    when exporting the date to be in the format: mm/dd/yyyy
      
    How to change the date parameter to display in the format: mm/dd/yyyy, or any other format?

Cause

  • Date is formatted based on the preferred viewing locale selected.
           
    For example: 
     
    In the above example, the preferred viewing locale was set to: "French (France)", and this is why the date was formatted as: dd/mm/yyyy   
    To change the format to be mm/dd/yyyy, one of the suggestion will be to set the preferred viewing locale language to "English (United States)"

Resolution

  • To change how the date parameter format the date, change the Preferred Viewing Locale:
         
    • For Crystal Reports:
       
      1. In Crystal Reports, open a report.     
          
      2. Under the menu "View - Preferred Viewing Locale",  select the language that correspond to the desired formatting.
          
        For examples: 
        If "English (United States)" is selected, the formatting for a date will be:  mm/dd/yyyy
        If "French (France)" is selected, the formatting for a date will be:  dd/mm/yyyy  
          
          
    • In SAP BI LaunchPad: 
       
      1. Login to SAP BI LaunchPad 
         
      2. At the top right corner, click on "Preferences"
         
      3. In the "Preferences" window, select "Locales abd Time Zone"   
         
      4. For the option "Preferred Viewing Locale", select the language that correspond to the desired date formatting.
         
      5. Click the button "Save & Close"
