1442660 - Fields can not be moved closer to each other in CR designer.

Symptom

  • In Crystal Reports fields can not be moved closer to each other.
  • If the fields are brought more closer it automatically moves away and maintains a constant minimum distance.

Environment

Crystal Reports 2008

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a Crystal Report.
  2. Insert a few fields.
  3. Drag the fields close to each other.

Cause

  • Fields in the report are snapped to grid.
  • When this option is checked all the fields automatically align its boundaries to these grid lines in all directions and so there is a distance maintained between two fields which is equal to the distance between two grid lines.

Resolution

There are two ways to resolve this problem

Solution 1:

Remove ‘Snap to Grid’ property.

  1. In Crystal Reports designer click File then Options. Options window opens.
  2. Go to Layout tab.
  3. Go to section for Grid option.
  4. Uncheck the option ‘Snap to Grid’.

Solution 2:

Reduce the Grid size.

  1. In Crystal Reports designer click File then Options. Options window opens.
  2. Go to Layout tab.
  3. Go to section for Grid option.
  4. Reduce the Grid Size to a desired value. By default it is 0.083 Inches.

If the Grid size is reduced the distance between the grid reduces and objects which are snapped to grid would also come close to each other
