1469499 - New Clarification Request Option is Disabled for an Open Item


The document describes why the new clarification request option is disabled.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Home work center.
  2. Select the Work view.
  3. Select the Inbox subview.
  4. Select the Open Clarification.


There are different types of tasks in the open items. If a task is of the type Clarification, then you cannot create a clarification request via New->Clarification Request. A clarification task is created by the system which describes how you can correct data which is inconsistent or not clear. Therefore, the New button is disabled for a clarification task.

Overview of Clarification Requests:

A clarification request is designed to support a question and answer process between users. You can start the process from anywhere in the system whenever you need additional information from another user to further process a business document or task. A clarification request is always created in relation to a business document or task.

Clarification Requests in Detail:

  • Sending a Clarification Request: 

As the sender of a clarification request you can give it a title and enter details. You can also add attachments and set a due date by which an answer is needed. Finally, you can give the request a priority level indicating its importance to the recipient. It is not possible to   send a clarification request to a group or a department, it can only be sent to individual users. You can send a clarification request to any user. The recipient of a clarification request can open the related documents, depending on their access rights. Should the recipient not have the necessary access rights, they will have access to the details of the clarification request only, not to the related business document or task.

  • Receiving a Clarification Request:

Clarification requests display in the Inbox subview of the Work view in the Home work center. The recipient of the clarification request can send a reply that includes his or her answer. As the sender of the request you then become the recipient of their response. They can also forward the request if another user needs to be involved.

  • Tracking a Clarification Request:

Responses to your clarification request display in the Inbox subview of the Work view of the Home work center. If, as the sender of the clarification request, you receive the expected response, you can finalize and complete it. However, if the request needs further clarification, you can either return the response to the same user or forward it to another user.
