Symptom

Deploying archives to SAP WebAS Java issues the following error messages:

class java.rmi.RemoteException:The user '<username>' could not be connected to the specified host '<hostname>'and port '<portnumber>'.

OR

com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NamingException: Exception during getInitialContext operation. No server is running.
Root exception is java.lang.NullPointerException
