1500540 - How do I allow users to change parameters in a published dataset?

Symptom

When I create a data set with prompts, then publish that data set to a public folder, users don’t seem to be able to refresh the data set and update the prompt values.

Cause

The datasets that are published to “My Organization” are complete queries that are not editable.

Resolution

Options to allow datasets to be filtered:

  • Do not include parameters in the query. Have the users filter the output of Explorer.  Notably, this is probably not the most ideal situation as ALL data would be pulled down  rather than pulling specific data.  This would likely cause some performance issues depending on the amount of data.
  • Share the dataset rather than publish. This requires the user names that the dataset will be shared with must be entered into the invite mail when you select “Share”.  If the checkbox for allowing editing is checked, the invited users are made “Collaborators”  and when they look at the dataset, they will be able to view as is, or enter new parameters.  The dataset will be in each invited user’s Shared with me folder.   The user can “duplicate” any dataset in their “Shared with me”  folder  and it will place the duplicate in their “My Stuff” folder structure.  This will allow a user to manipulate datasets to their liking without changing the original.
