Symptom

CAUTION:

The Java Support Package Manager (JSPM) is replaced by the Software Update Manager (SUM).

SAP strongly recommends that you use SUM for all Java maintenance scenarios for SAP NetWeaver-based systems.

The latest SUM version is available with SL Toolset 1.0 on the SAP Service Marketplace at: http://service.sap.com/sltoolset -> Software Logistics Toolset 1.0.

For detailed information on JSPM replacement, see SAP Note 1589311 and the document "JSPM_support_strategy.pdf" attached to it.

While performing an SP update using Java Support Package Manager (JSPM), even though your start release is not lower than 6.40 SPS09,  you get the following error upon JSPM startup:

  • Cannot initialize application data.
    Could not determine profile parameters.
    Error while reading properties from
    /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_<Central Instance>_<hostname>. Variables
    [/J2EE/DBSystem/DBName, /J2EE/DBSystem/SystemHome, /J2EE/DBSystem/DBType
ForSAP] not found. A possible reason can be that the start release is
    lower than 6.40 SPS09.
