Symptom
- Text truncated and merged with unrelated information.
- Report created in Crystal Reports, and exported to PDF format truncates text and merged it with other information.
- Note: Images and data in this SAP Knowledge Base Article is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
Environment
- Crystal Reports XI R2
- SAP Crystal Reports 2008
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a new report with multiple details sections.
- Format the sections to overlay each other by checking the section option: “Underlay Following Sections”
- Insert a database field, or a text object in the Details a section
- Insert a database field, or a text object in the Details b section
- Ensure the objects in details a and details b, are aligned to the left using a guideline.
- When previewing the report you will see the object are overlay.
- Export the report to PDF format
- When viewing the exported document in Adobe Acrobat Reader, notice the objects are not overlay, but they are combined.
To better illustrate the issue. Let use an example. If we have a report that have two (2) details section, and if we insert the following text in the details:
- Details a: From January
- Details b: To March
End we underlay Details a with Details b
And the Details a object and Details b object are aligned to the left,
The output, when we preview the report will look like:
- Details: From January To March
If we export the report to PDF format, the output will look like:
- Details: From JanuTo March
As you can see, the object will not underlay each other, but the space before the text: “To March” is removed, and we expect to see both text like in Crystal Reports, but instead, it look like the space is removed and the text is combined with the Details a.
