1518953 - Open or Save As dialog boxes do not show up in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Unable to open, or save a report.
  • When selecting Open, or Save As..., nothing happen.
  • When trying to Open or Save a report in Crystal Reports, no dialog box open.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2008
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Start Crystal Reports.
  2. Under the menu "File", select "Open"; or "Save as..."
  3. We will expect a Window to open and show the list of reports to open, or list of directories where to save a report, but instead, nothing happen. No Windows opens up.

Cause

  • This issue occur because the 'filedialog.dll' file is either missing or is unregistered.

Resolution

  • To resolve the issue:
    • Re-install Crystal Reports using the local computer Administrator account; or
    • Register the driver 'filedialog.dll'
                      
          
  • To register the driver 'filedialog.dll
       
    1. Close Crystal Reports.
         
    2. Navigate to the folder corresponding to the version of Crystal Reports used:
        
      • For Crystal Reports 2008:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\Business Objects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86 

      • For Crystal Reports 2011, 2013, 2016:
        C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86
             
    3. Search for the file: 'filedialog.dll' at the above location.
            
    4. If the file is missing, then copy that file from any other machine that has the same version of Crystal Reports, or re-install Crystal Reports.
           
    5. If the file exist, then register the driver by typing the command corresponding to the version of Crystal Reports used.
         
      • For Crystal Reports 2008:
        regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\Business Objects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86\filedialog.dll"
           
      • For Crystal Reports 2011, 2013, 2016:
        regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\filedialog.dll"
