1530864 - Error: a beta version is already installed and must be uninstalled

Symptom

  • Error: 'a beta version is already installed and must be uninstalled' is received when trying to install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 Production release.
  • Cannot uninstall CR4VS2010 beta from 'Programs and Features' option. Hence could not install Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010.
  • Unable to uninstall 'Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010' product version 1.0.0. Clicking on 'Uninstall' option does nothing.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 beta.
  • Windows 7 32 bit.

Resolution

To resolve the error message, use the following steps to remove the registry values in the Registry Editor.

CAUTION
The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

NOTE
It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files before you edit the registry.
For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
  1. On the 'Start' menu, click 'Search programs and files'.
  2. Type "Regedit" and then hit the return key or select the 'regedit' program in the list.
  3. In the Registry Editor, browse to the following key and remove it:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Microsoft | Windows | CurrentVersion | Uninstall{2d87DD11-EAE0-4F05-BF92-A96A7CDC186B}

    Also,
  4. Remove folder and subfolder of SAP BusinessObjects.
  5. Reboot the machine.
  6. Reinstall the CR4VS2010 setup.
