Symptom

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020

Resolution

  • To create a read-only report in Crystal Reports:
      
    1. Open the report in Crystal Reports 2011 or above.
    2. Under the menu "File", select "Export - Export Report"
    3. In the "Export" window, in the "Format" drop-down list, select "Crystal Reports Read-Only (RPTR)"
    4. In the 'Destination' field, choose the required destination.
    5. Click "OK"
       
  • When exporting a report to "Crystal Reports Read-Only format, it will create a report with the extension (.rptr)
       
  • This report can only be viewed in:
    • Crystal Reports Viewer,  
    • In application using .NET report viewers, 
    • SAP BI LaunchPad on the SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform / SAP Crystal Server.
        
  • Important: RPTR files cannot be opened in Crystal Reports.
