1536549 - Database logon information is either missing or incorrect

Symptom

When a Crystal Report is published to the Crystal Reports Server and previewed, the following error is displayed: "Database logon information is either missing or incorrect".

Environment

  • Crystal Reports XI R2
  • Crystal Reports Server XI R2 SP2

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a report in Crystal Reports XI R2 based off the Oracle database.
  2. Save the report to the Crystal Reports Server XI R2 SP2.  
  3. Logon to Central Management Console (CMC) using the Administration Launchpad. 
  4. Open the report just saved in the Crystal Reports Server. 
  5. Click on the ‘Preview’ button on the ‘Properties’ tab of the report. 
  6. "Database logon information is either missing or incorrect" error is returned.

Cause

The user account used to logon to the Oracle database server does not have the administrative privileges.

Resolution

  1. Create a report in Crystal Reports XI R2 based off the Oracle database.
  2. Save the report in Crystal Reports Server XI R2 SP2. 
  3. Logon to Central Management Console (CMC) using the Administration Launchpad. 
  4. Open the report just saved in Crystal Reports Server. 
  5. Click ‘Process’ tab of the report. 
  6. Click ‘Database’ tab under ‘Process’ tab. 
  7. Click "Use custom database logon information specified here" option. 
  8. Select ‘Oracle’ under the ‘Select a database driver’ option. 
  9. Enter the "tnsname" of the Oracle database server in the textbox for ‘Server’. 
  10. Leave the textbox for ‘Database’ blank. 
  11. Enter the Oracle database Server's username in the textbox for ‘User’. 
  12. This username should have all the Administrative Privileges. 
  13. Enter the password in the ‘Password’ textbox. 
  14. Click ‘Use same database logon as when report is run’ under ‘When viewing report:’ 
  15. Click the ‘Update’ button. 
  16. Click ‘Properties’. 
  17. Click ‘Preview’.
