1551266 - Error Message: "Cannot change relationship between cost center () and its company; cost center has postings in accounting that have not been reversed"

When you try to change the attribute of Org Unit XYZ from Cost Center only to Cost Center and Profit Center.  While checking the changes done, system throws below error message:

Cannot change relationship between cost center () and its company; cost center has postings in accounting that have not been reversed.

1. Go to Organizational Management workcenter.
2. Select Edit Org Structures.
3. Highlight the org unit XYZ.
4. Go to Definitions tab.
5. Select the check box Profit Center.
6. Select Check button and choose Check - Selected Structure option.

There are different possibilites which leads the above error message. The below might be a cause for this issue:

If the Org unit XYZ is moved from one company to another company. i.e., If you have maintained XYZ to a Company (Currecntly Belongs to) and later you have changed to another company on DD.MM.YYYY and now you wanted to make the Org unit as Profit center. This implies a change of Company for the Cost Center which is not allowed as soon as postings exist.

Follow below steps to resolve the issue,

1. Go to Organizational Management workcenter.
2. Select Edit Org structures.
3. Enter DD.MM.YYYY in effective from field.
4. Choose org unit XYZ.
5. Go to the definitions tab, position the cursor into the Currently belongs to field and clear the field. Verify that afterwards, the original business residence will shows up.

Alternatively, it might be possible to move the cost center to the other company once all non-zero balances for all GL accounts are reposted to another cost center so that all balances of XYZ are zero.
However, this path should be avoided, instead a new cost center can be created in the another company.
