Symptom

Crystal Reports generates errors related to:

  • database connections
  • database drivers
  • or, general database problems

Environment

  • Visual Studio 2010
  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010

Resolution

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 installs a database logging file called crlogger.dll and is located in:
  • 32 bit Operating Systems only ( OS )
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86
  • 64 bit Operating Systems ( OS )
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x86
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x64
  • To enable database logging add the following to your local System Environment Variables:
    • LOGGING_DIR = c:\logging
    • LOGGING_ENABLED_ASSERT = 1
    • LOGGING_ENABLED_RUNTIME = 30
  • To disable logging simply rename crlogger.dll to crlogger.org in both x86 and x64 locations. Or remove the environment variables.
