1571480 - “File not found” error in Xcelsius.

Symptom

  • Following error message is displayed when tried to preview the dashboard created in Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 2 Fix Pack 2.1 from Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 3.3: ”File not found”
  • When clicked on OK button another error message “An error occurred during SWF generation. For more information contact the file creator or your system administrator” is displayed.

Environment

  • Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 2 Fix Pack 2.1
  • Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 3.3
  • Microsoft Office 2003

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open dashboard created in Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 2.1 in Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 3.3.
  2. Notice that the following error message is displayed: “This file was created in an older version of Xcelsius. If you overwrite the file with changes made in this version, you will not be able to open it in previous versions of Xcelsius. Do you want to continue?”
  3. Click on OK button.
  4. Preview the dashboard.
  5. Notice that the following error message is displayed: “File not found”.
  6. Click on OK button.
  7. As soon as we click on OK button another error message “An error occurred during SWF generation. For more information contact the file creator or your system administrator” is displayed.

Resolution

  1. Open dashboard created in Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 2.1 in Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 3.3.
  2. Go to Data -> Export menu and export Excel Spreadsheet (say ExportedExcelSpreadsheet.xls).
  3. Open above Excel Spreadsheet (ExportedExcelSpreadsheet.xls) with Microsoft Excel 2007.
  4. Now inside Microsoft Excel 2007 go to Save As menu and save Excel Spreadsheet (ExportedExcelSpreadsheet.xls) in Excel 97-2003 Workbook format (Say NewExcelSpreadsheet.xls).
  5. Go to Xcelsius 2008 Service Pack 3 Fix Pack 3.3 and import Excel Spreadsheet file saved in the above step (NewExcelSpreadsheet.xls).
  6. Bind all components in the dashboard to corresponding Excel cells and preview the dashboard.
  7. Notice that the dashboard previews correctly without giving any error message.
