1574404 - Launching Explorer fails on weblogic with HTTP 500 error

• HTTP 500 Error while lunching the Explorer (polestar application: http://hostname:port/polestar ) in the Weblogic 10 deployment
• Error on Internet Explorer :
  "The website cannot display the page - HTTP 500 Internal server error"
• Error on Firefox :
  "Error: Compilation of JSP File '/index.jsp' failed: index.jsp:48:50: The method getServletContext() is undefined for the type Http ServletRequest final ServletContext servletContext = getServletContext();"  
• Issue is seen when Explorer is deployed on Weblogic 10 server
• This issue does not occur on Explorer deployed on the default Tomcat install where it works
• Error on Weblogic logs indicate 
  [weblogic.servlet.internal.WebAppServletContext@3079d78 - appName: 'polestar', name: 'polestar', context-path: '/polestar', spec-
  version: 'null'] Root cause of ServletException.
