Symptom

Web application throws an error Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.CreateObject Failed on web server, when report is opened.

Environment

  • Crystal Reports XI R2 SP6
  • Web application using ASP
  • Windows Server 2003

Cause

  • ASP uses Report Designer Component (RDC) which requires craxdrt.dll
  • .NET Server Installer MSI (runtime) does not contain craxdrt.dll

Resolution

  1. Copy the craxdrt.dll from development machine to web server.
  2. Paste it in the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Common\3.5\bin directory containing the rest of the Crystal Reports files.
  3. Register the dll with regsvr32.exe

NOTE: Ensure that Crystal Reports designer & runtime are on same patch level.
