1615516 - Crystal Reports designer throws an error "Schema cannot proceed” using XML as data source with DTD(Document Type Definition) schema

Symptom

When we try to create the Crystal Reports using XML file as data source and DTD schema Crystal Reports designer throws error “Schema cannot proceed”

Environment

  • Crystal Reports 2008 SP3
  • Windows XP
  • XML data source

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports designer try to use "XML and Web services" as datasource from Database Expert
  2. Use DTD schema instead of XSD schema

Resolution

  1. We could not use DTD(Document Type Definitions) schema while creating the Crystal Reports with XML as data source
  2. DTD(Document Type Definition) uses a syntax different from XML and has limitation in functionality
  3. We have to use XSD schema only while creating the report
